Natural Beauty With Holistic Skin Care
Holistic skin care is taking care of the skin using natural products. The word “holistic” means emphasizing the importance of the whole and the interdependence of its parts. Thus, with holistic skin care, we’re going to look at how treating the whole body with natural products can help the skin look and feel better.
Oily skin develops when the oil producing sebaceous glands of the skin are overactive and produce more oil than is needed. The skin then has a coating of grease all over it. A person with oily skin generally has enlarged pores and may also have acne or even blackheads.
Acne is generally associated with adolescence. While it is true that a vast majority of teen agers have acne, it is not limited to youth. Acne is caused by hormonal changes in the body and that can occur at any age. Pregnant women, for instance, often develop acne as a result of their pregnancy related hormones.
The most basic holistic skin care treatment is to wash your face with pure soap and water twice a day. You should be careful not to massage the soap into the pores though.
But many people find they need stronger treatments. Often, they want to use natural remedies.
Cucumber is one of the best natural holistic skin care ingredients. You can pat cucumber juice on your face before applying cosmetics to keep your makeup from becoming patchy. Another remedy is to mix ½ tsp. of cucumber juice and ½ tsp. lime juice and apply it to your face before taking a hot bath.
Making a natural mud mask of equal parts green clay powder and raw honey is a favorite holistic skin care technique. Make sure you avoid the eye area. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes before washing it off gently with lukewarm water. You can safely apply this mask up to three times a week.
Holistic skin care can be about what you don’t do as well as things to put on your to-do list. For instance, if you want to protect your skin, don’t smoke. In addition to all of the other ill-effects of cigarettes, smoking causes the pores to get larger and secrete more oil.
Another thing to avoid is fried foods. Injesting any oil exasperates the oils already found in your system. When you do have to eat oil based foods (for instance, in salad dressing), choose cold pressed canola oil or olive oil only.
Most processed foods are also bad for your skin. Sugary and salty snacks that come out of a package lead to acne.
Try to eat high protein foods as well as green, leafy vegetables and fruits. Eating right is part of the holistic solution to having better skin.
You should also be drinking plenty of water. Water helps to flush the toxins out of the skin. This will alleviate your acne.
Water also keeps the skin hydrated. Hydrated skin is healthy skin. Try to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day.
Holistic skin care involves treating the whole body in a way that is conducive to having healthy skin. This involves both the things you eat as well as the items you place directly onto the skin as treatments.
